Preserve supported content

Image, audio and video adapters preserve encoded content. Documents have narrower rewriting rules. Unsupported variants are rejected.

Verify the copy

Every output is scanned again to check that supported removable metadata is gone.

Selected EXIF, XMP, comments and text blocks. Still-image HEIC and classic TIFF only; RAW/AVIF/BigTIFF are rejected. Display orientation is preserved in a minimal technical EXIF record; descriptive EXIF is removed. TIFF orientation is preserved.

ID3, selected RIFF tags, FLAC comments/artwork and M4A container tags. Encoded sound stays unchanged. AAC requires ADTS framing; Ogg requires a single Vorbis/Opus stream; WMA requires unencrypted audio-only ASF. Other variants are rejected.

Archive timestamps, extras and comments only. File names, permissions and member contents remain. No recursive cleaning. ZIP64, encryption and signed Office packages are rejected.

Useful, with clear boundaries.

Container scanning does not interpret every individual metadata field. A detected EXIF block can contain location, camera or date information, but its presence does not prove that any particular field is present.

Visible text, faces, addresses, steganographic data and filenames are outside the cleaner’s scope. JPEG application headers, PNG unknown chunks and rendering data can retain information. This is a targeted cleaner, not forensic sanitization.
