Do my files leave my device?
No. Scanning and cleaning run locally. MetaQuiet has no upload endpoint, account system or analytics. Sharing a result opens your chosen destination, which has its own privacy practices.
Will my original file change?
No. MetaQuiet creates a separate copy. The original is never overwritten.
Which files can I clean today?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC, TIFF, MP3, WAV, FLAC, MP4/MOV/M4A, PDF, DOCX/XLSX/PPTX and ZIP, plus Ogg/Opus, ADTS AAC, WMA, AVI/FLV/MKV/WebM and 3GP/3G2, each with its own limits. RAW, AVIF, BigTIFF and legacy Office files are not supported.
Does this remove everything private?
No. Visible faces, addresses, text, watermarks and hidden information inside image pixels remain. This is metadata minimization, not anonymization.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. The app scans and cleans offline. Only downloading the app or sharing through another service needs a connection.
Is MetaQuiet free?
Yes. During early access everything is free and unlimited, and nothing is for sale. When Pro launches, early users keep Pro at no cost.
Does MetaQuiet remove the location from my photos?
Yes, for supported formats. The clean copy has no stored GPS coordinates, and other supported fields such as camera model, dates and author are removed too. Anything visible in the picture, like a street sign or a house number, stays.
Why doesn’t my photo show a location on Android?
Android’s photo picker removes location data before it hands a photo to an app without media location access, and MetaQuiet does not ask for that access. To see the stored location, open the photo with Browse Files instead.
Does cleaning lower the quality?
No. MetaQuiet does not re-encode photos, audio or video. It rewrites only the metadata parts of the file, so the picture and the sound stay exactly the same.
Will my photos still show the right way up?
Yes. Supported photos keep a small technical orientation record so they display correctly. Descriptive details such as location, camera and author are removed.
Can I clean several files at once?
Not yet. MetaQuiet cleans one file at a time, so you can check each result before you share it.
How large can a file be?
Up to 25 MB, and up to 5 MB for PDFs. ZIP archives also have limits on the number of entries and their unpacked size.
Why was my file rejected?
MetaQuiet refuses files it cannot clean safely: unsupported variants, damaged files, encrypted or signed PDFs and files over the size limit. Renaming the extension does not change the format. The Supported formats screen shows what works.
Where do my clean copies go?
They stay in the app’s temporary storage until you save or share them. You can delete them any time in Settings, and the system may clear them too. Your originals are never touched.
Which permissions does the app need?
Very few. MetaQuiet uses the system photo and file pickers, so it only sees the files you choose. It never asks for your location, camera or microphone. Saving to your photo library may ask for permission to add photos.
Does MetaQuiet work on iPhone and Android?
MetaQuiet is made for Android and iPhone and is in testing right now. Send us a short email from the download page and we will add you to the tester list.
